Police investigating a suspected hit-and-run collision in Blackpool that left a cyclist needing hospital treatment have released an image of a man they want to speak to.

A 54-year-old man was injured after being knocked off his bike in the collision on Bloomfield Road at around 8.30pm on March 3.

He was checked over at Blackpool Victoria Hospital for minor head injuries.

A stolen car matching the description of the vehicle involved has since been recovered by officers.

Police say the driver fled the scene but was stopped a short time later for failing to stop at a red light on Ansdell Road – and ran off again.

A red Toyota Aygo was recovered by police who later found it had been reported stolen from an address on Cameron Avenue, in Layton.

Police say the car was taken between 2.30pm and 10.30pm on Tuesday, March 3.

The man police want to speak to is described as white, around 6ft tall with ginger hair. He was wearing jeans and a navy blue jacket.

Officers today appealed for information about the man after inquiries so far failed to identify him,

PC Louisa Lucas of Blackpool Police said: “We would like to speak with the man pictured in connection with our enquiries and would encourage him to come forward, or anyone who can help us to identify the man to get in touch.”

Anyone with information should call police on 101.
