A Lancashire police spokesman said: “McNally is wanted after absconding from prison. He was jailed in 2010 for a violent assault and is a dangerous offender. If you see McNally, please do not approach him and instead contact police immediately.”

McNally’s disappearance came just hours after fellow offender Carl Tanner, 23, made his escape from the open prison.

He is currently serving a 20 month sentence for robbery.

He is described as white with brown hair and green eyes, with scars on his upper lip and near his right eye. He has several tattoos including the word ‘mum’ on his neck, ‘Jade’ on the left side of his body, ‘hope’ on his left hand and a tribal design on his right arm. He has links to Blackburn and Burnley.

People who have information about Tanner should quote log number 612 of November 23.
