Police have appealed for information after a suspected arson attack at a town centre property.

Firefighters and police were called to Leopold Grove between Adelaide Street and Church Street around 8pm on Saturday.

Several fire engines and crews attended, with the fire believed to have started in the first floor of a property.

The blaze followed a smaller fire at 5am on Saturday morning.

Fire crews used hose reels to put out the fire, but today officers revealed an investigation is underway into how last night’s fire started.

Det Sgt Mark Dickinson of Blackpool police said: “There was a big fire on Leopold Grove. It is deemed to be suspicious at this time.

“There is a joint investigation underway by police and fire crews. The building was derelict at the time, but has possibly been used by squatters.

“Anyone in possession of information with regards to who started it or people coming from the building we would be keen to speak to.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on the non-emergency number 101.
