Two men who asked for a prison sentence so they could withdraw from drugs reacted with fury when a court turned them down.
Nicholas Shorrock and Michael Brade both shouted at magistrates sitting at Blackpool: “We ain’t paying anything - see you tomorrow.”
Shorrock and Brade, both aged 40, and of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to theft.
They were each fined £75 and ordered to pay £1 compensation with £20 victims’ surcharge.
Pam Smith, prosecuting, said that on October 9 the defendants were both seen at Sainsbury’s new store in Talbot Road stealing a bottle of lager.
They loitered about the supermarket lobby and were confronted by a security officers. There was a struggle and the bottle was smashed.
