A PENSIONER had a lucky escape after her car flipped over in a collision.

Police were called to the incident after the 83-year-old, who was driving a Toyota Yaris, clipped a parked Volkswagen Polo near the Texaco garage on Poulton Road, Blackpool, at around 6.25pm on Sunday.

The elderly driver was helped from the vehicle by passer-by Ian Heed and was taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital with minor injuries.

Mr Heed, 48, of Carleton, said: “We saw the car flip into the air and on to its roof.

“It was still spinning when we pulled up.

“I feared the worst and was so relieved when I saw the driver trying to get out.

“I ripped the car door off and guided her to safety, she was shaken but OK.”

A section of the road was closed for an hour.
