An investigation into an alleged sexual assault in a Poulton park has been dropped.

Detectives now say “no offence” had been committed after a 20-year-old woman reported she had been attacked in Jean Stansfield Memorial Park, in the town, in the early hours of Saturday morning.

An appeal for witnesses has now been withdrawn.

Det Sgt Kathryn Riley, from Blackpool CID, said: “The allegation’s been negated, it was not a sexual assault.”
