Unemployment figures rise in Blackpool

Unemployment figures rise in Blackpool

UNEMPLOYMENT is still rising across the Fylde coast, according to new figures.

Blackpool, Wyre and Fylde are still in the cold grasp of recession as more than 100 people in the resort signed up to claim the Jobseeker’s Allowance benefit.

The January 2013 figures show 6,226 people are now claiming JSA compared to 6,096 in December last year - the equivalent to seven per cent of the population.

This makes for stark reading in Blackpool when compared to the national average of 3.8 per cent.

It is the same picture across the coast.

JSA claimants in Wyre shot up by 100 from 1,652 in December 2012 to 1,752 in January, while the amount of claimants in Fylde went from 1,032 to 1,051 in the same period.
