NORTH Pier’s famous theatre is crucial to bringing families flocking to Blackpool.

NORTH Pier’s famous theatre is crucial to bringing families flocking to Blackpool.

And the latest line-up announced by Duggie Chapman MBE proves he has earned the honour he received in 2009 for his services to entertainment.

The summer show he is bringing to Blackpool is a star-studded line-up of entertainers who are coveted by production agencies, and will provide the perfect mix of comedy, old and new.

I worked as theatre manager at North Pier for more than 13 years, and it was always a pleasure to have Duggie Chapman and his artists for many summer seasons over those years.

It did my heart good to read he is back where he belongs at North Pier theatre for the upcoming season.

Not only will it feature Michael Barrymore’s Big Night Out every Saturday from July 16, with local children given the chance to shine, but Cannon and Ball every Thursday from July 21, and the Grumbleweeds, headlining the Laughter Show every Monday from July 18.

There will even be a pantomime, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, to attract youngsters during the long summer holidays, which will run every Wednesday afternoon from July 27 at 2pm

This is what can only be described as the best of the best back at this wonderful and historic venue.

Well done, Duggie, for bringing Michael back to Blackpool.

I worked with him many times, and always found him to be a really delightful man, and one of the best comedy stars of the last few years.

The Grumbleweeds, Robin and Graham, are to me one of the funniest acts you will ever get the chance to see, along with Cannon and Ball and Duncan Norvelle, who Blackpool audiences love so much.

And a great coup for North Pier this summer is Saturday Nights.

Family entertainment is what North Pier theatre is famous for, and with Duggie Chapmen Productions, that’s what you will get.

I wish Duggie all the best for the coming season, and not forgetting Laci Endresz, the producer and director of the Tower Circus, and Bob Summers, who put the show back in showbusiness.

Tickets for all North Pier shows went on sale this week at the Box Office, on (01253) 623 304, or via the Ticketmaster Hotline on 0844 8472452.
