Cannon and Ball are excited.
Tonight’s the night they launch the first of their two big summer season shows in Blackpool and they are “amazing” according to the duo.
And they should know, with 51 years entertaining experience together, having performed around the country and on primetime TV, they’re confident they know what audiences want and that they’re about to deliver.
Tonight sees the opening of their family show, Step Back In Time, at Blackpool’s Grand Theatre, which features music celebrating the world’s best entertainers, plus speciality acts and Cannon and Ball, of course, thrown in too.
“It’s amazing the stuff that’s going on,” said Bobby. “I don’t think there’s been a show like this for years.”
Tommy added: “We were offered the chance of coming to Blackpool in a fabulous Las Vegas style show, we thought here’s our chance to bring back some of the old days.”
“But it’s very modern,” said Bobby. “The lighting, the dancing. It’s all brand new.
“If I’m paying ticket price I want value for money, these days that’s important, and that’s what you get with this.”
Stepping out onto the stage to applause will be a world away from the last time the duo were in the Grand for a public event.
The pair were among a number of famous friends of the late Bernie Nolan to attend the Blackpool starlet’s funeral at the theatre last week.
They hope she’s smiling down on them as they perform tonight.
“It was a very, very sad for us that day,” said Bobby. “We were very big friends.
“She’d be saying to me ‘why you’ve not got me in the show?’
“She’d approve of the show. The Grand Theatre is wonderful, she loved it.”
Next Thursday, August 1, is the opening night for Cannon and Ball’s adult show at the Grand, Ooh La La, a seductive French burlesque revue show.
“I can’t tell you how much I’m looking forward to it,” said Tommy. “I hope it’s a big success – I think it will be.”
