THERE was only One Direction the skull-splitting screams were aimed at in Winter Gardens last night as a certain X-Factor boy band took to the stage.

The Fylde coast’s streets must have emptied of teenage girls as they descended on the Church Street venue in a massive wave of brightly-coloured hysteria.

With faces painted bearing the names of their favourite 1D hunk, matching band T-shirts and dozens of brightly-painted banners, excitement filled the air.

Parents were banished as the gangs of girly superfans counted down the minutes to show time in the foyer.

And with banner slogans like Marry Me Harry, the screaming started before One Direction – Niall, Harry, Louis, Zayn and Liam – even took to the stage.

Among the hordes were Olivia Steele and Olivia Smith (left), 14, from Bispham. Miss Steele said: “I can’t believe we are going to see One Direction, they are our favourite band.

“Liam is our favourite, I can’t wait to see him, I think I will scream my head off.”

Megan Devlin, 13, also from Bispham added: “We’ve loved them ever since they were first put together.

“I like the way they are all down to Earth, and really good looking too, I think I might faint when they actually come on stage.”

Molly Jenkins, 14, from South Shore got the ticket as a surprise birthday present and said: “I am the biggest fan and screamed when I found out.

“I’m so excited I might even cry.”

Robyn Davies, 17, from Blackpool travelled with a group of friends for the show. She said: “I’ve seen them three times and absolutely love them, they’ve got amazing voices.

“I can’t wait to see Niall.”
