WE LOVE Blackpool! That was the message from hit daytime TV-show This Morning after they descended on the resort for a day of fun in the sun.
Hundreds of fans headed down to the town’s famous Promenade to watch the filming yesterday, with many hoping for a glimpse of model turned presenter Imogen Thomas, whose private life became one of the hottest tabloid stories of the 2011.
And fellow presenter Matt Johnson said the crowd in Blackpool had been the best of their summer tour.
He said: “It was fantastic, the turn-out was the best so far. I love Blackpool, I’ve been here many times before and it’s great to be back. It never changes and it’s a special place.
“The local acts we had on were great, it’s the capital of entertainment in my eyes.
“I had fish and chips with the crew because you’ve got to do that in Blackpool.”
Comedians Cannon and Ball starred on the show, as well as local ballroom dancers and performers from the Tower Circus and Funny Girls.
Town-crier Barry McQueen also played a part and said: “I was chuffed to bits to be asked to appear, I was really delighted.
“It’s wonderful for Blackpool. We are Britain’s greatest seaside resort, always have been, always will be.”
Fans of the show lined up along the Promenade between South and Central Piers, and also headed down onto the beach in the hope of catching a glimpse of boyband The Overtones and popular show segment “Hunks in Trunks”.
Gillian Forrester, 57, travelled from Birmingham for Imogen’s autograph and said: “I’ve seen The Overtones quite a few times, I came to see Imogen.
“I just came for the day, the weather was nice and I loved it.”
Karen Harman, 37, lives in central Blackpool and added: “I just came over to see what was going on, it’s good to see Blackpool on the TV.”
Natalie Wyatt, head of visitBlackpool, said: “We were delighted This Morning decided to broadcast from Blackpool.
“We particularly enjoyed showing the production team the new developments in resort and The Tower created the perfect backdrop to advertise the town.”
