TODAY is the big day for teenagers across the Fylde coast as they take part in The Gazette’s Young Engineers STEM Skills Challenge final.

With a first place prize of £10,000 10 teams have been improving their balloon buggy designs before a nail-biting race.

Expert engineers from Cuadrilla Resources and Blackpool and The Fylde College are running the competition with The Gazette to boost interest in science, technology, engineering and maths.

The qualifying teams are from AKS Blackpool and AKS Lytham, Highfield Humanities College, Kirkham Grammar School, Millfield Science College, St George’s School and Unity College.
