OAP smashes car through back of his own garage

An elderly man had to be cut from his car '“ after ploughing it through the back of his own garage yesterday evening.

The gent, thought to be in his 90s, escaped unharmed following the incident, which caused damage to his small red Kia car and garage, and a neighbour’s garden, at 5.35pm.

Firefighters from Bispham and Fleetwood were called to the accident, in The Maltings, Thornton, and used cutting equipment and a hydraulic ram to release the man.

An air ambulance helicopter landed in a field off Bourne Way nearby, but took off again shortly after without a patient on board.

A spokeswoman for the North West Ambulance Service said the man was given a check-up by paramedics but not taken to hospital.
