OAP '˜collapses' after car smashes into lamppost

A pensioner collapsed after driving his car into a lamppost last night, police said.

Paramedics were called to help the man, in his 70s, after the crash, with happened at the junction of Preston New Road and Clifton Road, in Marton, at around 10.10pm.

A spokesman for Lancashire Police said the OAP recovered after initially being ‘unsteady on his feet’ and was taken home rather than to hospital, having suffered a concussion.

Officers said the man, who was driving a silver Nissan Juke, ‘failed to see’ a kerb opposite the Esso petrol station, resulting in the collision.

A photo taken at the scene shows the traffic light was knocked flat, while the car suffered damage to its front right side.

A female passenger escaped unharmed, police added.
