This year’s Lytham Club Day will have an exciting new feature - a song of its own for the first time, available to buy on the day on CD.

It has been specially written by St Annes-based songwriter Andy Severyn and performed by 15-year-old current rose queen Jenny Pope and her retinue and maids of honours.

Entitled Celebrate The Day, it was recorded at Andy’s home studio, with the lyrics having been written on the train in his way to work in manchester.

“I was asked to write something by Jenny’s parents, Gill and David Pope and I wanted a catchy, party rhythm which easy to sing and remember,” said Andy.

“During the recordings I also gave Jenny and other members of the retinue music lessons.

“It was great fun to record and Jenny and everyone on the recording sounds great.”

Jenny, a student at St Bede’s RC High School, is joined on the record by Grace Elston, Charlotte Clowes, Esther Pope, Phoebe Rowlings, Cara Restrick, Emily Bould, Liberty Doyle, Erin McGlue, Martha Pope and Rosie Carter-Rothwell. who is a former St Annes Carnival Queen.

Daniel Snape, a seven-year-old pupil of Lytham CE Primary School, won a competition to design the cover and the CD, which also features an instrumental version of the song, will be on sale at Club day, with proceeds going to Club Day funds.

The lyrics include:

Hear the music everywhere,

Happy faces in the square

It’s a celebration

See the dancing in the street

So come on and tap your feet

It’s a celebration

So get the party started, woah-oh-oh, ‘cause everyone is here

Yeah get the party started woah-oh-oh, there’s such an atmosphere

See the colours in the town

See the flowers and the crown

It’s a celebration
