New efforts to help support people who lack basic computer skills have been praised by a Fylde coast MP.
Almost one in five people across the North West are not confident sending emails, using a search engine or browsing the web.
Fleetwood MP Eric Ollerenshaw welcomed Go ON North West, a new programme launched last week to help boost people’s digital skills.
The scheme, set up by charity Go ON UK, aims to get residents online and follows a pilot scheme in Liverpool in 2011.
Mr Ollerenshaw said: “Basic online skills are increasingly critical for employability.
“As the scope of emerging digital opportunities, services and tools continues to expand, we simply cannot afford to sit on the sidelines.”
