THE FUTURE of fighting fires on the Fylde coast has been revealed.
These specially adapted helmets come equipped with built in reflective goggles and are the latest technology to be supplied to firefighters throughout the region.
After passing a trial in Rossendale, the helmets were dispatched to stations throughout Lancashire to provide emergency teams with the most advanced technology in heat protection and enhance their safety when tackling blazes.
A robust torch can also be fitted to the headgear and has been designed to be used when firefighters are surrounded by flammable vapour and allows for hands-free illumination.
The MSA Gallet fire helmet is also more padded than the older models, and have been made with comfort in mind as they come with adjustable straps.
Older helmets will be gradually phased out of the service after being in use for ten years.
A spokesman for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said: “We have recently procured new helmets which provide better protection and enables firefighters to do their job more efficiently.”
