Mystery surrounds death of cyclist

MYSTERY surrounds the death of a cyclist found lying in the road in St Annes.

A 61-year-old-man was found on Cross Street, at the junction with St David’s Road, next to his bicycle, at 2.30pm yesterday, .

He was taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police say the cause of death is still unknown and they today appealed for witnesses to come forward.

Sgt Malcolm Bell, from Lancashire Police’s Road Policing Unit, said: “I would appeal to anybody that saw this man cycling in the St Annes area, in particular anyone that saw him fall from his bike or witnessed any form of collision to come forward and contact police.

“We are at the early stages of the investigation and we are trying to establish the circumstances of exactly what has happened.”
