DETECTIVES have launched an investigation after the body of a man was found on Fleetwood beach.

George Wiskin, 76, from Staffordshire, was discovered by a dog walker near Fleetwood Golf Club.

Police are treating Mr Wiskin’s death as unexplained and are appealing for information to try and establish how he died.

Police and the Coastguard were called to the scene at around 5pm on Friday.

It is thought the pensioner was in Blackpool to attend a conference.

Det Chief Insp Neil Esseen, leading the investigation, said: “We are currently trying to establish the circumstances around how Mr Wiskin died and at this stage we are treating the death as unexplained.

“We are still at the early stages of the investigation and we are trying to piece together Mr Wiskin’s movements in the hours and even days leading up to his death.

“We have taken the step of releasing a photograph of him in a bid to try and jog people’s memories in case anyone has seen him in the local area recently.”

Anyone with information or may have seen Mr Wiskin in the days prior to his death is asked to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
