More help to keep homes warm

Blackpool Council has committed to new guidelines through the Cosy Homes scheme to enable more residents to apply for free or subsidised ways to make their homes warmer, such as installing a new boiler or insulation.

It means the council can refer individual residents to energy companies for potential help subject to more flexible criteria, such as being ill or having young children.

Coun Fred Jackson, cabinet member responsible for energy, said: “The scheme means many more Blackpool residents that have traditionally not qualified in the past will be eligible to apply for help. If someone is struggling with heating bills and is living in a cold or damp home I would urge them to apply for assistance.”
