International reggae star Little Roy and boy band Reconnected are among the acts to complete the line-up for Blackpool’s Illuminations Switch-On Weekend.

Jamaican-born Little Roy will take to the stage on Saturday, on the same night Madness will be entertaining the crowds.

For Little Roy it will be his first Blackpool performance.

He said: “I’ve heard great things about the Blackpool Illuminations but I’ve not played here before so I am looking forward to this gig.

“It’s great to support Madness at such a unique venue and important event.”

Little Roy has been entertaining since the late 1960s and is the perfect compliment to the Ska – a music genre that originated in Jamaica in the late 1950s –band that is Madness.

His performance will see him present the critically acclaimed Nirvana covers project Battle for Seattle which spawned a No.1 album on i-Tunes and saw him take on the Summer European festivals.

Up and coming band Reconnected are included in the Madness line-up while Blackpool-based performers Karima Francis, Nancy Langton and Last Breath will also take to the stage over the Switch-On weekend.

Singer-songwriter Karima, from North Shore, and four-piece rock band Last Breath will both support Irish rockers The Script, who are headlining on Friday – the same night TV presenter Jonathan Ross will officially flick the switch for the Lights.

Rising star Nancy Langton, from Marton, will perform ahead of the Madness gig.

Natalie Wyatt, managing director of Marketing Blackpool, said: “We are delighted to announce such great acts to complete the line-up for the Switch-On Weekend.

“The variety and diversity of the artists appeals to a wide age group and represents a great range of music so I hope to see young and old enjoying both events and having an absolutely fantastic weekend.”

Tickets for The Script and Madness are available from VisitBlackpool Box Office and Tourist Information Centre.
