BLACKPOOL woman Joanne Clayton is hoping to become a real role model.
The 24-year-old, from Norbreck, has beat off the competition from thousands across the country to get through to the final of a top beauty contest.
She will be competing in the grand final of Top Model UK in London, in April, under the editorial category.
The former Bispham High School student said: “I couldn’t believe it when I found out I had got through to the final.
“I had to go submit my application, then I got called to an audition in London, where I had to model in a bikini.
“There were about 100 girls at the audition, so I didn’t expect to get through.
“It’s been great, the other week we went down to London again, for the VIP launch party.
“And then the grand final will take place in April at the Hilton Metropole.
“I’m really pleased I was in the editorial section, as that’s the line of modelling I’m interested in – doing magazines and advertising.
“I’m only 5ft 7ins, so not really tall enough for catwalk work. I’d love to do magazine work.
“I hope the competition might help raise my profile.”
Joanne, who studied marketing and information systems at UCLAN in Preston, is currently doing a Teaching English As a Foreign Language course.
She is looking forward to the grand final – where she will be up against 21 other women from around the country.
She will need to wear a variety of outfits, including evening wear, designer wear and swimwear and do an interview with the judging panel.
Joanne said: “I’m really excited about it now and looking forward to it. It will be a brilliant experience. Some of the prizes are amazing – a guy who won the male section last year won a contract to model for Diesel.
“But just taking part and the whole evening will be really exciting and such a great experience. “The competition appealed to me because I’ve always been interested in modelling.
“I’ve always had a passion for modelling and now I’ve finished university I want to pursue it more seriously.”
