There will be lots of teams of ladies doing the Race for Life in Blackpool next Wednesday, but Michelle Tomlinson’s is probably one of the biggest.

Fitness instructor Michelle, from Blackpool, has got together a huge team of 50 women, who all plan to get pretty in pink and take part in the Cancer Research event.

They will follow the 5k course along the Promenade on the evening of July 10, along with thousands of other ladies from the local area, all raising money and awareness for the charity.

Michelle has done the event several times with her sister, Sarah Robinson and daughter Clare Tomlinson, but this year she decided to get a big team together of women who attend her fitness classes at various venues across the Fylde coast.

Michelle said: “It was actually at New Year I decided to do it, I know lots of people make New Year’s Resolutions – particularly in fitness, so I thought it would be nice to do one anyone could do – no matter what their age, fitness level or ability, as long as they were a woman of course.

“We’ve asked all the guys to come down too to the start line though and cheer us on.

“It seemed like a great chance to get people from my classes together, perhaps give them a target to aim for and if they haven’t ever done Race for Life or a charity event like it to give it a try with people they know.

“Everybody has been touched by cancer in some way – either they have been affected, or a family member or friend.

“I’ve done the Race for Life several times with my sister and daughter. Sadly over the last few years, we have lost family members to cancer.

“I felt the Race for Life would mean something to the women in the classes.

“And it has also has a great social aspect. People can chat as they walk around, we can go for a drink afterwards.

“Everyone is so busy when they come to classes, they tend to do the class then rush off home. This will give me a chance to get to know the ladies and them to get to know each other. It’s a great team or bonding exercise. And it’s all for a good cause.

“We will all be wearing pink of course, we’ve got silly outfits and wigs to dress up in.

“We’re all looking forward to it, it will be great fun.”
