Have your say

Fancy watching Jungle Jim going head-to-head with Harry the Hound from Houndshill Shopping Centre?

What about Bling and Balula from the Sandcastle Waterpark versus the Sea Life Centre’s Sharky Shark?

It sounds far-fetched, but these match-ups and more are coming to Blackpool town centre next month, when St John’s hosts the fourth annual Blackpool Mascot Games.

On Friday, August 2, last year’s grand champion Jungle Jim will try to defend his title against his fellow resort mascots.

The Mascot Games, organised by VisitBlackpool, is a free event and will see characters competing against each other in a number of challenging disciplines including musical deckchairs, the egg and spoon race and a bean bag race.

The top three will then compete in the final discipline, the Obstacle Course, before being crowned the overall winner of this year’s VisitBlackpool Mascot Games Champion.

And this year there will be a new face in the crowd as VisitBlackpool adds its own mascot to the mix.

Natalie Wyatt, managing director of Marketing Blackpool, said: “The Mascot Games is a really popular event in our calendar and we all look forward to what is always a really fun day.

“This year will be particularly exciting as we launch the new yet-to-be-seen VisitBlackpool mascot.

“It is great to host such free, fun family events where all spectators can enjoy a great day in a fantastic public space.”
