A MAN who died after being swept out to sea was warned by a friend not to go in the water.

Ian Walker, 44, from Loughborough died on Saturday after entering the sea near Cocker Square North shore, an inquest was told.

A hotelier reported seen Mr Walker and another man wearing shorts and carrying towels moments before the tragic accident.

It was high tide and the sea was described as rough when the men entered the water at 11.40am.

Despite a massive air and sea rescue, Mr Walker, who visiting the resort for the weekend was overcome by the powerful waves.

Mr Walker was later found face down in the water. Paramedics made a frantic attempt at resuscitation as shocked holidaymakers looked on.

He was taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
