Man seriously injured in crash

A 28-year-old cyclist has been seriously injured in a crash in Thornton.

Police were called to the junction of Fleetwood Road North and Trunnah Road around 7am on Tuesday after reports a grey Volkswagen Passat had collided with a cyclist riding a blue and silver Ammaco mountain bike.

The 28-year-old man from Thornton who was on the bike suffered serious head injuries in the incident and was taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital for treatment. He was later transferred to Royal Preston Hospital with a suspected bleed on the brain.

The driver of the Volkswagen, a 28-year-old man from St Annes, was uninjured.

PC Marc Glass, of Lancashire Police, said: “We are appealing for witnesses to come forward following a collision in Thornton.

“The cyclist involved is in a serious condition and we would urge anyone with information to contact us immediately.”
