LIFEBOAT crews rescued from the sea off Blackpool.

Two RNLI D-Class Lifeboats were launched last night after it was reported a distressed man was in the sea up to his chest in the water, opposite the Imperial Hotel.

The man is believed to have ignored pleas from the police and Coastguard would not come ashore.

The Lifeboats were launched and quickly at the scene.

Lifeboat Helmsman Neil Williams said: “There were fears for this man’s safety.

“The tide was flooding, but fortunately the sea was calm. We were able to locate him and two of our crew jumped into the water and dragged him from the sea and onto the beach.”

Paramedics were then able to care for the casualty.
