A man had to be rescued by lifeboat crews after getting into difficulty swimming near South Pier.
Crews were called from Blackpool Lifeboat centre around 7.30pm on Friday evening to assist after the coastguard received numerous 999 calls.
The man, close to the end of the pier, was plucked to safety and was treated by ambulance crews.
A coastguard spokesman said: “Numerous 999 calls came through to us.
“A man was in the water at the end of South Pier.
“Two Blackpool lifeboats were called and got him out of the water.
“The person was in some danger but is now safe and being looked after by paramedics.”
