A man has appeared in court charged with raping a woman on her way home from a night out in Blackpool.
The 26-year-old made his first appearance at Blackpool Magistrates’ Court on Saturday.
He faces one charge of rape and one charge of attempted rape in connection with an alleged sexual assault on a woman following a night in the town centre.
Police said the woman was attacked on Loftos Avenue, South Shore, in the early hours of Thursday, after she left a taxi, thinking she would be dropped of near her hotel.
Detectives say she became separated from her boyfriend during the evening and later made her way home.
The woman, who is from Scotland, has since returned home.
The accused, who gave no address to police, was remanded in cutsody and is due to appear at Preston Crown Court on September 24.
