A man accused of possessing 1,064 pornographic videos of children, some at the highest level of indecency, has made his first appearance at court.

David Rogers, 58, of Seathwaite Avenue, Mereside, also faces six charges of making an indecent video of a child.

The offences are alleged to have taken place at Blackpool between August 2011 and October 2013.

Rachel Parker, prosecuting, asked for the case to be heard at crown court. Defence lawyer Brett Chappell said his client would not indicate pleas to the offences at this stage.

Rogers was bailed to appear at Preston Crown Court on May 6 by Blackpool magistrates. He must not have unsupervised contact with any child under 16 unless allowed by social services, as a condition of his bail.
