A 48 year old man sexually assaulted a woman after inviting her to his flat.

Pam Smith, prosecuting, told District Judge Jeff Brailsford sitting at Blackpool Magistrates Court that Stephen Openshaw of Barton Avenue,Blackpool, asked to have a word with the woman.

The victim has made an impact statement in which she she can no longer sleep properly and how the incident has affected her relationship with her partner

But at his flat he indecently assaulted her. He then tried to block her leaving the flat when he touched her again.

Openshaw was found guilty at an earlier hearing and was appearing to be sentenced.

The Ms Smith told the court: “The victim has made an impact statement in which she she can no longer sleep properly and how the incident has affected her relationship with her partner.

“She says she is scared to be on her own.”

Robert Castle, defending, said that his client admitted what he did was inappropriate but he did not think he had done anything wrong.

Openshaw was given 18 weeks jail suspended for eighteen months.He was also placed on a 13 week curfew from 9pm to 7am
