POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a man had his jaw broken while walking to a shop.
Stephen Marcinko, 21, was assaulted on Friday night as he walked along an alleyway running between Curzon Road and Church Road behind the Sacred Heart Church in St Annes.
Mr Marcinko told police he was going to the shops on St Albans Road between 11pm and midnight when he was approached by a man who punched him in the face and broke his jaw.
The attacker then ran back along the alley towards Church Road where he had originally come from.
He has been described by police as being white, around six feet tall, of average build and aged in his early 20s. He has a thin face, a pointed nose and was wearing a black Nike tracksuit top with the hood up and dark tracksuit bottoms.
PC Kirsty Jones, from Blackpool CID, said: “I would urge anyone who may have been in the area at the time to come forward and contact police if they saw anything at all suspicious.
“In particular, we believe there was a group of young people standing outside the Thoroughgoods store on St Albans Road and so I would ask them to come forward as they may have information that could assist us in our investigation.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact Blackpool Police on (01253) 293933 or via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
