A man has drowned after getting into difficulty near North Pier.
The Coastguard was called around 11.45am today after reports of a person in the water.
Police, ambulance and the RNLI attended, with the man being pulled from the sea and given mouth to mouth resuscitation.
Despite the best efforts of the lifeboatmen, the man was pronounced dead at the scene by ambulance crews.
A spokesman for the Coastguard said: “We had the Lytham St Annes coastal rescue team and the Blackpool inshore lifeboats dispatched to the scene.
“The man was recovered from the water and given mouth to mouth resuscitation by RNLI crews.
“He was taken to the ambulance but pronounced dead on arrival.”
