A MAN and child were taken to hospital after being hit by a tram.

The 21-year-old man was cycling with the child in a carriage attached to the back of the bike when the collision happened at around 8.20pm last night.

The incident saw the track closed close to the Illuminations collection area, outside the Old Miner’s Home on Queens Promenade, North Shore.

Firefighters were called to the scene and put up emergency lighting while giving initial first aid before paramedics arrived and took the casualties to Blackpool’s Victoria Hospital.

The child suffered minor facial injuries as a result of the collision while the man was treated for a possible hip injury.

Lancashire Police and Blackpool Transport are today investigating the cause of the crash.

A police spokesman said the two casualties were treated at the scene but required a hospital check-up to ensure their injuries were no more serious than initially thought.

He added: “We attended the scene.

“Both the injured people suffered only superficial injuries and were taken to hospital as a precaution.”

Blackpool Transport halted tram services between Uncle Tom’s Cabin and Little Bispham while the incident was ongoing, but the line was reopened at 10.45pm.
