A MAN has admitted manslaughter after killing his wife at their Blackpool home.

Frederick Gilliard pleaded guilty to killing 74-year-old Josephine Gilliard - also known as June - at the home they shared on Links Road, North Shore.

He had previously denied murder but the alternative charge of manslaughter was accepted on the grounds of diminished responsibility by the crown today at a hearing at Preston Crown Court.

He will be sentenced on August 17.

Detectives launched a murder investigation after Mrs Gilliard’s body was found at the address at around 10am on Sunday February 5 this year.

A post mortem examination established her cause of death as multiple injuries, consistent with being stabbed repeatedly and struck to the head with a garden ornament.
