A YOUNG bookseller has proved she is the cream of the creative crop after scooping a top award.

It is just 18 months since 26-year-old Katie Clapham and her mum, Carolyn, opened St Annes bookshop Storytellers, Inc. and she is already being recognised as one of the best in her field.

The former Lytham St Annes High Technology College pupil picked up the Young Bookseller of the Year award at the BA Industry awards – which recognises the UK’s best independent bookshops – after the judges described her as an “intuitively good bookseller”.

As well as working in The Crescent bookshop, Katie runs bookclubs and activities for youngsters and teenagers, and regularly visits schools to run events with popular children’s authors.

She said: “I’m absolutely delighted to have won – the award ceremony was fantastic.

“I met some amazing people and now they all know about me and the shop – it is brilliant to be recognised within the industry.

“It’s really encouraging to win this prize so early on in my new career and I’m inspired and motivated to make Storytellers, Inc. even more prominent in the industry and more importantly, on the Fylde.”

The judges commended Katie for her “imaginative and distinctive” stock selection in the shop, her expert knowledge of children’s literature, and her “busy and varied” programme of regular and holiday events which “keep children and parents coming back”.

Storytellers, Inc. was also shortlisted at the awards in the Children’s Independent Bookseller category, but lost out to The Book Nook in Brighton and Hove.
