A MAJOR road through Over Wyre will be closed for six days from today – bringing disruption to hundreds of motorists.
The Lancashire County Council work will completely shut Hall Gate Lane in Preesall from Preesall Park Fold to Park House to allow re-surfacing work to be carried out.
Blackpool Transport buses into Stalmine will be disrupted from 9am to 5pm while services into Knott End and Preesall will not be running during the six days.
The 2C will only go along Hall Gate Lane as far as the Seven Stars Hotel in Stalmine and a shuttle bus is running through Knott End and Stalmine via the village of Stake Pool.
Brian Lindop, customer services manager for Blackpool Transport, said: “This is entirely beyond our control.
“Lancashire County Council is shutting the road and we simply won’t be able to get through.”
Trader Helen Singleton, owner of Stalmine Food, Drink and News on Hall Gate Lane, said: “It’s going to affect our business because we are not going to get people driving along the road. I can’t understand why the council couldn’t do this at night when it is such a major project.”
Sim Lane-Dixon, (right), highways manager at Lancashire County Council, said: “Because it’s such a busy route and we haven’t wanted to cause disruption by closing it, we’ve repaired this junction with large patches over recent years which is work we can do while keeping the road open.
“Unfortunately the recent wet and freezing weather has damaged the surface to such an extent we can no longer avoid the need to fully resurface this area which can only be done safely by closing Hall Gate Lane.”
