A NUMBER of businesses have reportedly been evacuated after a blaze broke out in a restaurant in Preston city centre.

Firefighters were called to McDonald’s, in Friargate, at around 8.40am today after receiving reports a blaze had broken out in the kitchen.

Roads into the area - including Market Street and Friargate - were closed while officers tackled the fire, which was said to have been largely extinguished by 9.30pm.

Police confirmed the roads remained closed this morning with a number of nearby shops evacuated.
