SEVEN people have been injured after a minibus overturned on the M55.

Police say the minibus crashed close to the westbound slip road near Junction 4 at Marton Circle, rolling several times before landing on an embankment.

One person has been airlifted to hospital with serious but not life threatening injuries after the crash at 4.05pm on Friday.

Six more have been injured and taken by road ambulance to Royal Preston Hospital.

Police say the seven people on board were all from a care home, three carers and three adults who have disabilities or learning difficulties.

The driver was also injured.

It was initially reported those injured were children.

The M55 was closed in both directions as 999 crews worked at the scene. It re-opened at 6pm.
