A man and woman were fortunate to escape unharmed after their car burst into flames on a busy road in Blackpool.
The incident happened around 2pm on Sunday afternoon on Queens Promenade, Anchorsholme.
The driver, a 75-year-old man, noticed smoke coming from the bonnet of the car and pulled over.
The couple got out and within minutes the Ford estate had been engulfed in flames.
Eyewitness David Waterworth, who photographed the burning car, said: “It was unbelievable how quickly the fire took hold.”
Firefighters from Fleetwood Fire Station were called to deal with the incident and soon put the flames out.
Crew manager Kevin Warwick said: “The elderly driver noticed smoke coming from the engine. He got out and it burst into flames.
“We had to shut the road for 30 minutes to deal with the incident.”
A spokesman for Lancashire Fire and Rescue added: “The man and woman were both suffering from shock and were taken to a walk-in centre for treatment.”
