A section of Abingdon Street in Blackpool town centre had to be cordoned off when a shop sign became loose during strong winds.

Yellow and black hazard tape was stretched around lampposts outside Ryman Stationery, while shoppers braving the blustery weather were warned to stay away as the signage flapped in the wind.

The large black panel was removed by a member of town centre managers Blackpool BID at around lunchtime today.

A severe weather warning will remain in place across the North West until 6pm tomorrow.

High tide flood warnings were also issued.
