Yobs shoot birds dead in cruel spate of attacks
CRUEL attacks have left three seagulls dead in a quiet Larkholme cul-de-sac.
The gulls had been shot and were found on separate occasions during a 10-day stretch in Beck Court on Larkholme estate.
Seagulls, which are nesting at the moment, use roofs and chimney stacks as a site to rear their young and possibly could have been doing so when they were sickeningly shot.
They were all killed on rooftops.
The person who found them, who did not wish to be named, was disgusted.
Distress
He said: “The first two gulls had obviously been dead for a while and the third was still alive, but clearly in deep distress – it later died.
“It’s totally disgusting, but we don’t know who is doing it.”
Animal campaigner Liz Brown, who lives nearby, was horrified.
She said: “They were all in the same area but nobody seems to have seen anything.
“It’s unbelievable. How can someone do something like that?
“Seagulls are part and parcel of living by the sea, and are forced to nest a little bit more inland these days.
“They do no harm. It’s horrific.”
There have been other reports of seagulls being shot.
Margaret Bysterbosch, of Fleetwood RSPCA, said: “We have had this problem for quite a number of years, it’s not the first time.
“Why people want to take their spite out on these beautiful birds is beyond me. It’s rather pathetic.
“Seagulls are a protected species and it is a criminal offence to disturb them in any way.”
