YMCA worker in gay attack
A YMCA worker made a homophobic remark to a woman and punched her on the forehead.
Luke Rawcliffe, 18, of Rixton Close, Thornton, pleaded guilty to assaulting Louise Raycroft.
He was ordered to pay his victim 500 compensation, sentenced to do 60 hours' unpaid work for the community and told to pay 60 costs by District Judge Peter Ward sitting at Blackpool Magistrates' Court.
Pam Smith, prosecuting, said Ms Raycroft was walking through the bus station with her female partner when they were approached by a group of men.
Rawcliffe called Miss Raycroft an inappropriate word and without any provocation punched her on the forehead. She was knocked to the floor and hit her head.
John Muir, defending, said his client, who had no previous convictions, hoped to attend university next year to study chemical engineering. He was working at the Fleetwood YMCA as head of the lifeguard team to help pay for college.
The defence added that there was an altercation with the two women and one swung out at a friend of Rawcliffe's. Rawcliffe, who had been drinking, then hit the woman on the head.
