Wyre dad's win-win scheme for cerebral palsy sufferers

A SOLICITOR from St Michael's whose daughter was born with cerebral palsy is launching a pioneering scheme to help victims of brain damage.

Andrew Lindsay is working alongside colleague David Smith, from Preston, to give victims up to 125,000 to pay for fast and vital rehabilitation, rather than wait until the end of a compensation case which can take years to finish.

Rehab4Life, which is the first scheme of its kind in the UK, will see the two solicitors, who specialise in brain injury, spinal injury and clinical negligence cases, fight claims on a no-win, no-fee basis.

If the case is won, the loan is paid back from the compensation award. If it is lost an insurance company covers the repayment of the loan.

Mr Lindsay's daughter Tracy, 27, has quadriplegic cerebral palsy and can only move her right arm while Mr Smith's son Peter, 20, was diagnosed with cerebral palsy aged four months and was later found to have autism.

Mr Lindsay, 52, said: "David and I know from personal experience that traumatic brain injury patients need intensive input from an early stage – 30 minutes of physiotherapy a month isn't good enough.

"Rehab4Life means the patient is in control, there are no long delays or uncertainties and the chances of a better recovery are substantially increased. It's a win-win situation in which the patient is able to get on with his or her life."

Rehab4Life is backed by neurological expert Professor Mike Barnes, a former president of the World Federation of Neurological Rehabilitation.

He said: "The beauty of Rehab4Life is that it provides rapid access to money when it's needed."

Mr Lindsay and Mr Smith, of Rehab4Life LLP Solicitors, are based in Riversway Business Village, Preston.
