RESIDENTS are being warned to be on the alert for unscrupulous doorstep traders following an incident in Blackpool.

Marton Neighbourhood Watch says Trading Standards chiefs have been contacted by a resident complaining about a gang of workers targeting homeowners in Kipling Drive and possibly other streets in the area.

Now Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinator Mary Naylor is highlighting the concerns.

She said: “The men called at an address of an elderly lady and insisted that a man who lived on the property, had employed them to do a brick-paving driveway.

“When told that no male lived at said property, although be careful what you tell people, he eventually left only when the lady refused to allow him into the house.

“There were several males sat in the back of an old Land Rover. The man who spoke to the lady had an Irish or Scottish accent and was in his late 50s.”

Mrs Naylor is urging people to attend the next PACT (Police and Community Together) meeting which takes place on Tuesday March 6 at 4pm at the United Reformed Church Hall on Preston Old Road, when further police and community safety concerns will be raised with local officers.

Councillors’ surgeries are also held every second Thursday of the month at the same venue, with the next one from 6pm until 6.30pm on March 8.
