UFO spotted in Fylde sky?

THE UFOs are back!

Sceptics may sneer, but Fleetwood, a known UFO hotspot, has had its latest visitation.

And this time there is video evidence to back it up.

Strange orange lights were seen racing across the sky at the Larkholme Estate on Monday night and Gavin Billington of Fairway was quick to capture the astonishing footage.

"They were like big balls of fire – there was no sound or anything," said Gavin, a chef at Blackpool and The Fylde College.

He had been watching television at home with girlfriend Lisa Huxley when he spotted the UFOs hurtling across the sky in a north-easterly direction.

Gavin said: "There were about six of them and they were the height of about three or four houses.

"It lasted a minute or two and they were moving quite fast.

"They seemed to be going in a line."

From his seafront home he saw the objects pass over The Strand and head towards The Mount.

He added: "I have seen loads of things in the sky and wondered 'what's that?' but I never reacted to them.

"As soon as I saw this I jumped out of my chair and started filming because I knew it was something weird.

"I have no idea what it was.

"We went through the video and it can't have been something that was fired – it was moving too slowly.

"I've never seen anything like it in my life."

He went to his mother Jean Billington's home on Rossall Close and then got a call from Lisa to say another light was overhead.

Mrs Billington, who also say the lights, said: "It wasn't an aircraft. It was an orange ball which hovered and then went off as though it was going in the direction of Morecambe."

It has been suggested in the past that such sightings have been Chinese lanterns or improvised lanterns made by youngsters.

Mrs Billington added: "It was definitely not a Chinese lantern."

In 2003 Fleetwood was listed as one of the top 20 places in Britain for unexplained sightings.

That year a man from Fleetwood reported seven cigar-shaped objects in the north-western sky and a year later two men spotted strange lights over the golf course.

Just before Christmas last year lights were seen above Fleetwood before they shot away in different directions.

Ian Martin of the Cosmic Conspiracies website said sightings of orange balls were becoming more frequent.

He said: "We are getting four or five sightings a week at the moment.

They range from basketball size to the size of a double-decker bus.

"We are not sure what they are but they are being spotted all over the world. People say they are Chinese lanterns but the formations they are flying in rules that out."

A spokeswoman for Blackpool Airport said they could shed no light on the mysterious objects.

She added: "The only thing in the air at the time was an incoming flight from Palma."
