Two people arrested after a baby was taken to hospital suffering serious head injuries have been released on police bail.

A 20-year-old woman and 19-year-old man were detained by police on Friday after the eight-week-old baby was hospitalised with the injuries at first thought to be life threatening.

Ambulance crews were called to a home on Auster Crescent, Freckleton, at 10.40am on Thursday and took the baby to Royal Preston Hospital.

Medics later called in police and the child was transferred to a specialist unit at Liverpool’s Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

The pair have been released on police bail to addresses outside of the Fylde coast area and on bail conditions until July 10.
