TV's daytime king wows Blackpool crowd
THE idea of Jeremy Kyle disco dancing to Tina Turner is not an easy one to imagine.
For the lucky audience members who turned out to support The North West Air Ambulance's charity Care In The Air concert last night however – this bizarre vision became a reality.
There was no DNA tests or dysfunctional families in sight On North Pier as daytime television's straight-talking chat show star took to the stage with comedian Frank Carson to the sound of thunderous applause.
The king of conflict resolution did not disappoint his waiting fans.
The pair exchanged jokes from the comfort of a sofa before an unexpected musical interlude. As it emerged Kyle had been caught dancing to singer Carol Kay's version of Tina Turner's River Deep, Mountain High backstage, Kay was called on again so Kyle could perform.
Jaws dropped as the hard-hitting host shimmied and shook and showed an altogether softer side in the name of charity.
The evening, which was held to mark the tenth anniversary of The North West Air Ambulance, included a galaxy of local stars.
More than 7,000 was raised in total and Granada host Paul Crone said he was delighted with the event.
He said: "I'm over the moon to see so many people turning out to support the Air Ambulance, especially as we are in a recession.
"All the stars gave their time for free and there was a fantastic display of talent on offer.
"Seeing Jeremy Kyle dancing will definitely be remembered as a highlight.
"It's not something many people will have witnessed.
"I'm delighted the event has been a success and we've raised so much for this vitally important charity."
With more than three and a half hours of entertainment, nobody could have complained the evening wasn't value for money.
Despite there being no sign of Freddie Starr or Suranne Jones, if the audience missed them, they did a good job of hiding it.
Acts were varied and guaranteed something to suit everyone's tastes.
Scores of singers belted out hits from Elton John and John Lennon to Judy Garland and Snow Patrol.
Dancers from Scream Theatre School wowed with a breathtaking musical and dance tribute to Michael Jackson and Britain's Got Talent's Craig Harper threatened to steal the show with his one man impression of all of Boyzone.
Comedians brought cheerful colour and the operatic Ti Amero gave a stunning finale with Nessun Dorma.
Care in The Air showed Blackpool's true charity spirit and will not be forgotten in a hurry.
