TV psychic leads spine-tingling ghost walk

THERE was no clowning around as TV psychic Ian Lawman led thrillseekers through a spine-tingling ghost walk.

The presenter of Living With The Dead visited The Spanish Hall in Blackpool's famed Winter Gardens and found all was not what it seemed.

Faces in mirrors, moving glassware and sight of a former workman who met a tragic end were just some of the hair-raising experiences.

Oh and Charlie Cairoli!

Ian has a special link with Blackpool in that he says his spirit guide - a spirit who will help guide and protect a medium through their work - is none other than former Tower Circus clown.

He explained: "Charlie has been with me for a long time, from the age of four I acknowledged what I thought was Charlie but who turned out to be his father."

More than 20 guests accompanied Ian as he spent the night between the Spanish Hall, the Baronial Hall and in some of the back stage dressing room areas.

There have been countless tales of ghostly goings on at the venue down the years.

He said: "Our night in The Winter Gardens was amazing, it's certainly an interesting place.

"In the Spanish Hall there is a number of clouds hanging from the ceiling and I saw a man doing some maintenance up there on the lighting rig.

"I actually saw him falling from the rig to his death, he had been hanging on to one of the clouds while someone ran to get help but sadly he lost his grip and fell.

"This was quite emotional to see, we found out from a local historian that a maintenance man had died working in that room so it was very sad."

The walk was organised by The Grand's marketing manager Stephen Mercer who has been responsible for organising ghost tours in Blackpool for the past two years.

Stephen said: "I've been working with Ian for a while so invited him to come up and spend a night in the Spanish Hall.

"It was very eventful. We went to one of the dressing rooms to do some 'scrying' which is an old Victorian parlour game using mirrors.

"One person saw a clown looking back at them and another person saw a woman with a bee hive hairdo, it was really interesting.

"We also did some glasswork which is like a ouija board, but without the letters and that was very eventful too.

"We hope to invite Ian back to do some more walks in the near future."
