TV presenter cooks up a punk storm
WHO would play in a band like this....?
Punk fans attending the annual Rebellion Festival in Blackpool did a double take when one of the acts appeared on-stage and one of the guitarists looked like TV's own Loyd Grossman.
But their eyes did not deceive them. The former host of Masterchef and the man who snooped around celebrity homes on Through the Keyhole returned to his less well-known love as rock guitarist with Jet Bronx and the New Forbidden.
Lloyd, 57, who names among his influences The Sex Pistols and The Ramones, had a hit with the band's debut single Ain't Doin' Nothin' – which reached number 49 in the charts in December 1977.
Among the tracks the band belted out as part of the yearly four-day festival were Ramona, Rock N Roll Romance and Chelsea.
The new-look, revived version of Jet Bronx and The Forbidden proved a popular draw with hundreds of fans enjoying the set – as thousands of punks from across the UK and further afield descended on the resort.
Loyd said: Hopefully, people judge the band on the music, not the fact I'm in it."
Some 200 acts took to the four stages inside the Winter Gardens and there were also fringe activities at other venues, including the West Coast Club, Beat and Riffs.
Legendary punk bands, such as The Boomtown Rats (minus Bob Geldof), Cock Sparrer, Stiff Little Fingers and Bad Manners, also appeared.
Organisers said about 5,000 people attended the event.
